Prospects for the development of the transport potential of the EAEU

Prospects for the development of the transport potential of the EAEU

Prospects for the development of transport corridors and their role in meeting the EEU economy's needs for transport and logistics services were discussed on November 10 at a joint roundtable organized by the Eurasian Economic Commission and the Coordinating Council on Trans-Eurasian Transportation.
The event was held at the headquarters of the EEC and was chaired by Arzybek Kozhoshev, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure of the EEC.
Alevtina Kirillova, Director General of Eurasian Agro Logistics, spoke about the progress of the Eurasian AgroExpress project, designed to ensure food security of the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union and the countries concerned.

Arzybek Kozhoshev noted that for further integration of national transport systems of EAEU states into the global transport system and to increase trade volumes the EEC continues to work on the development of transport infrastructure of Eurasian transport corridors and routes, including international transport corridors "East - West" and "North - South".
In August this year, the heads of government of the "Five" countries approved a list of seven priority infrastructure transport projects in the EAEU countries.
The meeting took place against the backdrop of tangible and structural changes in the global economy and the transport sector in Asia and Europe. International rail transport in the Eurasian space needs to be developed and improved. However, this cannot be implemented without the coordination of the efforts of all railroads, international organizations and specialized bodies.
One of the projects that is currently being developed even in the presence of such obstacles is the "Eurasian Agroexpress" project for the transportation of agro-industrial cargoes.
Alevtina Kirillova, Director General of "Eurasian Agro Logistics", told about the progress of its implementation.
The project ensures food security of the Eurasian Economic Union member states, as well as observer countries and interested countries.
As part of the project in the Department of Trade Policy EEC established a high-level commission, which is designed to solve the problems and barriers that currently arise in its implementation.
For example, the agro-express route to China, already launched on a regular basis in 2019, has been severely affected by the anti-coercive restrictions adopted by the PRC government. According to them, perishable and frozen cargoes do not pass through Russia-China border crossings and have to be redirected to ports in the Far East. This lengthens delivery times by 14 days.
The Department of Trade Policy of the EEC is working with Chinese colleagues to open the border in a pilot mode.
During 10 months of 2022 the volume of the "Eurasian agroexpress train" project amounted to more than 24 thousand containers on the routes Russia - China, Russia - Uzbekistan, Russia - the countries of the North-South corridor.
As part of the project partners bought new refrigerated containers: JSC "Russian Railways Logistics" - 500 units; partners of the project - 700 units.
The first full train with the new containers will leave for Uzbekistan by the end of 2022.
Alevtina Kirillova noted positive dynamics of the project realization. The projected annual traffic volume by the beginning of 2023 is expected at the level of 500 thousand tons.
