"Agroexpress" from Azerbaijan to Russia


The project "Agroexpress", launched, together with the Russian Export Center, companies JSC "Russian Railways Logistics" and "Alliance Logistic" on the routes between Russia and Azerbaijan from Lejit, Yalama, Khachmaz stations to Samur-Derbent, is aimed at developing exports of agricultural products of Russian and Azerbaijani agricultural centers, using modern logistical technologies, in particular, digitalization, traceability and integrated use of transport infrastructure.
The first pilot shipment is fruit (fresh persimmon) and vegetables. The volume of the pilot batch was more than 800 tons. The entire shipment arrived in excellent quality.

The project is aimed at developing a sustainable channel of export-import deliveries by launching accelerated multimodal container express trains along agreed routes. It provides for the loading of fresh fruit and vegetable products in modern refrigerated containers. JSC "Russian Railways Logistics" has already purchased a fleet of such containers, and the first hundred of them have been put into operation.

"The development of such accelerated comprehensive logistics services using the routes of Russia, Azerbaijan and the exit to the North-South corridor will create optimal opportunities for the development of foreign trade operations both between Russia and Azerbaijan, and with the participation of Iran and transit flows from the countries of the Caspian basin, the Persian Gulf and India to the infrastructure of the Russian and Azerbaijan railroads, and further - to Northern and Western Europe," - told the channel CBC TV Azerbaijan the Project Office Manager of JSC "RZD Logistics", General Director

The accelerated development of the project will also provide a simplified customs corridor, which is being developed jointly by the customs authorities of Russia and Azerbaijan.
"During the business mission to the Republic of Azerbaijan opportunities of transit routes through Azerbaijan were discussed, and at present we are jointly working on preparation of the Road Map to launch logistics services also in transit," - said Alevtina Kirillova.

According to the results of preliminary expert assessment, in case of full launch of "Agroexpress train" project in the North-South direction on the stage of pilot launch in 2022 it is possible to attract additionally up to 60 thousand tons of regular consignments of fruit and vegetable products and in further increasing up to 200 thousand and 400 thousand tons by 2025 and 2030 respectively.

According to JSC "Russian Railways Logistics" already provides for the shipment of the next shipment of perishable goods in refrigerated containers.
In 2022 it is planned to put the project on a regular basis.
